Project Assessments — May to July 2026

Not all KJSEA 2026 assessments happen in October. Three subjects have project components that were assessed earlier in the year:

Paper CodeSubjectAssessment PeriodDuration
911/1Creative Arts & Sports (Project)May – July 20263 months
912/2Pre-Technical Studies (Project)July 20261 month
906/2Agriculture (Project)July 20261 month
These project assessments are already complete. If your child sits Creative Arts & Sports, Agriculture, or Pre-Technical Studies, the project component grade is already with your school. The October written papers are Paper 1 (written) — separate from the project.

Special Needs & Braille Provisions

KNEC has made specific provisions for candidates with special needs in the 2026 KJSEA. Every written paper has a Braille version with additional time. Hearing Impaired candidates also have a separate provision for English Language papers:

Provision TypeAdditional Time GivenPapers Covered
Hearing Impaired+10 minutes per paperEnglish Language (901/1 & 901/2)
Braille (Visually Impaired)+30 minutes per paperAll written papers
Kenyan Sign LanguageStandard durationPapers 904/1 & 904/2 (replace Kiswahili)
⚠️ Note for parents of learners with special needs: Ensure your child’s special needs status was correctly registered with KNEC through the school before the exam. Braille papers and hearing impaired papers are only issued to pre-registered candidates.

What Candidates Must Know Before KJSEA Exam Day

These are the official KNEC rules that every Grade 9 candidate sitting KJSEA 2026 must follow. Violations can lead to cancellation of results for the entire subject — or the entire exam.

  • Arrive and be seated at your desk 15 minutes before each session. A late candidate must give a satisfactory reason. Anyone more than 30 minutes late will not normally be admitted.
  • Write all answers in black or blue ink (fountain pen or ballpoint). Do not use erasable pens.
  • Use pencil only for diagrams and shading of multiple choice answer sheets.
  • Your name, assessment number, and date must be written on every answer booklet before submission.
  • You may only use KNEC-printed Mathematical tables — no extra notes written in them. Non-programmable calculators are allowed where specified.
  • Do not copy or give answers to another candidate. Results for the whole subject are cancelled for any candidate found cheating.
  • Cell phones and all electronic communication devices are strictly prohibited in assessment centres. Any candidate found with one will have their results cancelled.
  • Do not take any question paper, used or unused paper, or rough work out of the assessment room.
  • If your question paper has smudges, errors, or missing pages, report to the Supervisor immediately.
  • You may not leave the room before the end of the allotted time without special Supervisor permission.
⚠️ Penalty reminder: Under the KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012, leaking or obtaining exam content carries a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of Ksh 2 million. Impersonation carries up to 2 years imprisonment plus a 3-year ban from all KNEC exams.

The 2026 KJSEA written exams run from Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October 2026. A rehearsal day is held on Friday 23 October 2026. Project assessments for Creative Arts & Sports, Pre-Technical Studies, and Agriculture were completed between May and July 2026.

What time do KJSEA 2026 exams start?

What is KJSEA and who sits it?

KJSEA stands for Kenya Junior School Education Assessment. It is the national end-of-junior-secondary school exam for Grade 9 learners under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). It is administered by KNEC and replaces the old KCPE system for this level of education.

How do I check KJSEA 2026 results?

What happens after KJSEA 2026 results come out?

Results are used to place learners into Grade 10 senior secondary schools. The Grade 10 placement portal opens after results are released, and candidates download admission letters via eCitizen or their school. Learners who prefer the vocational path can also apply to TVET institutions using their KJSEA results.

Is the KJSEA timetable the same as KPSEA 2026?

No. KJSEA is for Grade 9 (Junior Secondary). KPSEA is for Grade 6 (Upper Primary). Both start on 26 October 2026 but are completely separate exams with different papers, paper codes, and timetables. KPSEA runs 26–29 October while KJSEA runs 26–30 October.

Can I download the KJSEA 2026 timetable as a PDF?

Yes. The official KJSEA 2026 timetable PDF is published by KNEC. The document reference is KNEC/TD/SE/KJSEA/TT/2026/003. Download it directly from knec.ac.ke.

Are cell phones allowed in KJSEA 2026 exams?

No. Cell phones and all electronic communication devices are strictly prohibited in KJSEA assessment centres. Any candidate found with a phone will have their results cancelled — regardless of whether they used it or not.
