Academic Certificate — Minimum Craft Level
At least a Craft Certificate awarded by an approved qualification body: KNEC, CDACC, National Polytechnics (NPs), KASNEB, NITA, or an accredited university (local or foreign). Higher qualifications (Diploma, Degree) are accepted and may qualify you for a higher licence grade.

How to Apply — Step by Step
Application portal: mis.tveta.go.ke
Prepare your documents before opening the portal
Scan certified copies of all required documents — academic certificates, pedagogy certificate, and DCI Certificate of Good Conduct. Files should be clear, legible PDF or JPEG scans. Have your National ID number ready — it is your login identifier on the MIS portal.
Create your account on the TVET MIS portal
Go to mis.tveta.go.ke/assessors/signup. You will be asked for your ID number, first name, surname, phone number (+254 format), email address, and a password. The signup page covers trainers, assessors, and verifiers — use the same form regardless of which you are applying as.
Complete your registration profile
After creating your account, log in and complete the full trainer registration profile. This includes your academic history, current employer or institution, subject specialisation, and contact details. Fill every field — incomplete profiles are not processed.
Upload certified copies of your documents
Attach your certified academic certificates, pedagogy training proof, and DCI Certificate of Good Conduct through the portal’s document upload section. If you are renewing, also upload your CPD evidence. Double-check each file before submitting.
Pay the application fee through the portal
Proceed to the payment section on the portal and pay the applicable fee — KES 1,000 for new applications, KES 500 for renewals. Pay only through the portal’s official payment channel. Retain your payment confirmation receipt.
Submit and wait for processing
After payment, submit your application. TVETA does not publish a fixed processing timeline. If you have not received feedback within a reasonable period, contact TVETA at support@tveta.go.ke. You can also check your application status by logging back into the MIS portal.
Licence Validity and Renewal
A TVET trainer licence is valid for three years from the date of issue. After the three-year period, you must renew your licence to continue teaching legally in any TVET institution. Renewal requires:

- Updated certified copies of any new qualifications obtained
- Payment of the KES 500 renewal fee through the MIS portal
