KUCCPS Portal Guide
The KUCCPS portal is where KCSE candidates apply for placement to universities, TVET institutions, KMTC, and Teacher Training Colleges. This guide walks through logging in, applying, checking your qualified courses, confirming your submission, and fixing the most common errors that stop people from getting in.
Is the KUCCPS portal open right now?
KUCCPS opens the portal at specific points in each placement cycle – mainly for fresh applications shortly after KCSE results are released, and again for shorter revision windows afterward if you want to change your choices. Outside these windows, the login page stays live but new applications and changes aren’t accepted.
How to log into KUCCPS Portal
What you need
Your KCSE Index Number (typed without a slash), your KCSE examination year, and your password.
Your password
Your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE Index Number, exactly as used during your KCSE registration – unless you’ve changed it under Settings.
Once logged in, your dashboard shows your KCSE results, mean grade, and (for degree applicants) your Weighted Cluster Points for available programmes.
How to apply, step by step
Access the website and Student’s Portal
Go to the official KUCCPS site and click the Student’s Portal button, then Login.
Log in and confirm your contacts
Enter your index number, year, and password. On first access you’ll be asked to provide a valid email and phone number for yourself and a guardian – this is how KUCCPS reaches you about your placement, so keep it accurate.
Browse and identify programmes
Use the Institutions menu to browse by university or college, or the Programmes menu to browse by cluster and course. Each programme page shows its cluster subjects, minimum grade, cut-off points from previous years, and the 7-character programme code you’ll need to apply.
Enter your choices under Application/Revision
Degree applicants with a C+ mean grade submit up to 6 choices, including up to 3 similar programmes at different institutions for their first choice. Diploma, Certificate, and Artisan applicants each submit up to 4 choices, at C-, D, and E mean grade respectively.
Submit and pay
Click Submit, then Proceed to Pay. Choose M-PESA, KCB, RTGS, or Airtel Money. For M-PESA, use Business Number 222222 and the Account Number shown on screen – not your M-PESA transaction code – to complete the application. Keep that Account Number, since you’ll need it again for any future changes.
Choose whether to accept alternative placement
You’ll be asked whether you’re willing to be placed to any available programme if you miss all your preferred choices. Think this through before answering – it affects what happens if your first choices don’t work out.
Checking your qualified courses and cut-off points
Degree applicants don’t need to calculate their own eligibility – once logged in, your Weighted Cluster Points are shown automatically against every programme, using your actual KCSE subjects and grades. A cluster weight showing 0.000 means you didn’t sit a subject that programme requires, so you won’t qualify for it regardless of your overall grade.
Diploma, Certificate, and Artisan programmes instead show a minimum mean grade requirement on each programme page, alongside the list of institutions offering it and their cut-off points from previous years, to guide your choices.
Degree programmes are grouped into 18 active clusters, from Cluster 1 (Law) through Cluster 18 (Religious Studies, Theology, Islamic Studies and Related). The largest clusters by number of programmes are Cluster 2/3 (Business, Hospitality, Media, Communication and Related, 125 each), Cluster 15 (Agriculture, Animal Health, Food Science, Environmental Sciences and Related, 91 programmes), Cluster 5 (Engineering, Engineering Technology, Energy and Related, 80 programmes), and Cluster 13 (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences and Related, 55 programmes). Knowing your cluster helps you narrow down choices fast instead of scrolling the full programme list.

KUCCPS groups every programme it offers into categories under four qualification levels. These are category-level counts (how many programmes sit under each subject group), not individual course names, since KUCCPS itself only lists actual course titles once you’re logged in and searching by institution or programme.

Confirming your application went through
After paying, check that your application actually registered, don’t assume it did just because payment succeeded:
- Go to Application/Revision → Application History to see everything you’ve submitted.
- Or check your Dashboard – an active application is highlighted so it’s easy to spot.
You can still make changes before the deadline: delete a single programme choice, delete the entire application, or opt in or out of Multiple Categories Consideration (this last one requires re-entering your password to confirm).
Common problems and contacts
Why is KUCCPS not logging in?
The most common causes are an incorrectly typed index number (no slash), the wrong KCSE year, or the wrong password. Remember your password is your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE Index Number, not one you set yourself, unless you’ve since changed it.
I paid but my application isn’t showing as submitted
Check Application History and your Dashboard first – sometimes the confirmation message is missed but the application went through. If it genuinely didn’t register, you’ll need the same Account Number from your payment to resolve it, so keep that number safe from the moment you first pay.
Can KUCCPS place me twice?
You hold one active placement per category at a time, but you can apply to a second category if you opt into Multiple Categories Consideration, and you can request a transfer afterward if you want to change an existing placement.
