The KNEC e-certificate portal has two distinct account types. You choose your account type during registration and cannot change it afterward — you must create a new account if you need a different type.

Step 1: Start Registration on the KNEC Portal
- Visit knec.ac.ke and click E-Certificate to access the portal.
- On the homepage, click Sign Up or Register.
- You will be asked to choose your account type: select Applicant (if you’re downloading your own certificate) or Verifier Organization (if you’re setting up institutional verification).
Step 2: Enter Your Details and Send OTP
- Enter your full name and email address.
- Click Send OTP.
- KNEC will send a 6-digit code to your email address. Check your inbox (and spam/junk folder if you don’t see it immediately).
- Copy the code and paste it into the verification box on the registration screen.
- Important: The OTP code expires after 10 minutes. If it expires before you use it, go back and click Send OTP again to get a new code.
Step 3: Account Created
- Once you verify the OTP code, your account is created immediately.
- You can now log in to the portal using your email and a new OTP code each time.

Every Time You Log In
- Go to knec.ac.ke and click E-Certificate.
- On the homepage, click Login.
- Enter your email address (the one you used to register).
- Click Send OTP or Request OTP.
- A new 6-digit code is sent to your email. Check your inbox and copy the code.
- Paste the code into the verification box and click Verify or Log In.
- You will be taken to your dashboard (Applicant or Verifier, depending on your account type).
Key point: There is no password. You receive a new one-time code with each login. This is more secure than a traditional password because you don’t have to remember or reset anything — just use the code from your email.

What Is an OTP?
An OTP (One-Time Password) is a 6-digit code sent to your email address. It’s unique to each login session and can only be used once. OTP is used instead of a traditional password.
How Long Is the Code Valid?
OTP codes expire after 10 minutes. If you don’t use the code within 10 minutes, you must request a new one by clicking Send OTP or Request OTP again on the login screen. The old code will stop working automatically.
