KMTC Courses You Can Join With a D+ Mean Grade

A D+ mean grade is the lowest entry bar KMTC publishes for a certificate award. Only two courses accept it, and here’s exactly what else you need to qualify for each one, straight from KMTC’s own Academic Programmes booklet.

Quick answer

Two KMTC certificates admit a mean grade of D+:

  • Certificate in Medical Engineering
  • Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics

One short course also accepts a D+ minimum: Safe Phlebotomy. It isn’t a certificate-level award, but it’s worth knowing about if D+ is where you’re starting from.

Safe Phlebotomy is a short course, not a certificate programme — it trains you to draw blood for diagnostic purposes rather than leading to a KMTC certificate award.

Not quite a D+?

If your mean grade is D plain, one step below D+, only the Health Care Assistant short course is open to you. It runs for 1 year and costs KES 82,700, with intakes across dozens of KMTC campuses countrywide.

Frequently asked questions

Which KMTC courses accept a D+ mean grade?
Two certificate programmes: Certificate in Medical Engineering and Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics. The Safe Phlebotomy short course also accepts a D+ minimum, but it isn’t a certificate award.
Is D+ enough for a KMTC diploma?
No. Every KMTC diploma requires at least a mean grade of C, and most ask for specific subject grades on top of that. A D+ mean grade only qualifies you for certificate-level programmes.
What is the difference between D+ courses and D plain courses at KMTC?
D+ is one grade above D plain. With a D plain mean grade, the Health Care Assistant short course is the only KMTC programme open to you. A D+ mean grade opens up the two certificates on this page.
Can I join Certificate in Medical Engineering at KMTC without a strong Biology grade?
Yes. The course asks for a D- in just one of Physics/Physical Sciences, Biology/Biological Sciences, or Chemistry, so Physics or Chemistry can cover that requirement instead of Biology.
