SHA Payment Went Through? Here’s How to Check and Confirm It
Knowing your SHA payment went through doesn’t have to mean digging through three different apps. SHA already tells you automatically in most cases — you just need to know what to look for, and where to check if you want a second confirmation.
What SHA tells you automatically
Before you go looking, it’s worth knowing SHA’s system already pushes two kinds of notifications on its own — this is the part most guides skip entirely.
1Success confirmation with your next due date
Every time a payment is successfully made, you receive a confirmation message from M-PESA with the transaction details and the date of your next payment — so you don’t have to calculate it yourself.
2Automatic failure alert
If a scheduled payment fails — for example, due to low M-PESA balance — you get an SMS alert automatically, so you can act quickly and keep your cover from lapsing instead of finding out at a hospital counter.
3 ways to check if your SHA payment went through
If you didn’t get a notification, or you just want to double-check, these are the three places to look.
The M-PESA confirmation SMS
Check the recipient (SHA / SOCIAL HEALTH AUTHORITY), business number (200222), account number (your National ID), and amount. This confirms M-PESA sent the money — it’s immediate.
Dial *147#
Select the contribution or status option. This confirms SHA has acknowledged the payment on your member record, usually within about an hour.
Log into afyayangu.go.ke
Check your payment history for the reconciled record with date, amount, and reference. This is the formal source of truth, and can take 24 to 72 hours to update.
| Check | Confirms | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| M-PESA SMS | Money left your wallet and reached SHA | Immediate |
| *147# USSD | SHA acknowledged the payment on your record | ~1 hour |
| afyayangu.go.ke | Formal reconciliation to your member ledger | 24–72 hours |
If your M-PESA SMS shows the payment left but *147# or afyayangu.go.ke shows nothing, this is usually a reconciliation lag or a wrong ID entered as the account number — give it a few hours and recheck before escalating. If it’s still unresolved after some hours, treat it as a payment not reflecting and dial the SHA Contact Centre on 147.

FAQ: Checking If Your SHA Payment Went Through
How do I check if my SHA payment went through?
Check the M-PESA confirmation SMS for an immediate result, dial *147# for a status usually within an hour, or log into afyayangu.go.ke for the formal reconciled record within 24 to 72 hours.
How will I know if my SHA payment failed?
SHA sends an automatic SMS alert if a scheduled payment fails, for example due to low balance, so you can act quickly rather than only discovering the gap when you need care.
Does the SHA confirmation SMS show my next payment date?
Yes. Every successful SHA payment triggers an M-PESA confirmation message that includes the transaction details and the date your next payment is due.
What if my M-PESA SMS shows the payment left but SHA has no record?
This is usually a reconciliation lag or an incorrect ID entered as the account number. Wait a short period and recheck via *147#, then afyayangu.go.ke, before escalating to SHA support.
Where can I get help if my SHA payment is not reflecting?
Contact the SHA Contact Centre by dialling 147, or reach out to your service provider with your M-PESA reference code, National ID, and the date of payment ready.
